After much waiting and hoping, Arsenal have finally announced interim manager Renée Slegers as their official manager.
Previous manager Jonas Eidevall resigned as manager after their 2-1 loss to Chelsea. He had been facing mounting criticism since the end of the 23/24 season, particularly after failing to renew the contract of the WSL's all-time top goalscorer; Vivianne Miedema.
Following Eidevall's departure, previous assistant manager Renée Slegers took over as interim manager. Slegers emphasised the special place Arsenal holds in her heart, having played for the academy at the age of 17.
She also highlighted the club's rich history and expressed her excitement about the opportunity.
Since then, she has been a beloved figure among both fans and players. Leah Williamson praised Slegers, stating; "We found a way that fits everybody and have taken advantage of that."
This statement reflects the team's success under Slegers, with an impressive 11-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, a stark contrast to Eidevall's solitary win in the 24/25 season.
Since taking over, Slegers has consistently been asked about becoming the permanent manager. Arsenal initially announced that a new manager would be appointed after the October international break, but this was later revised to the Christmas break.
Today, her appointment was officially confirmed. Commenting on her new role, Slegers stated:
"We want to win things with the team, and that's why I'm here. I believe we can achieve great things with this squad. There's a lot of hard work ahead, but also a foundation of good performances. I understand what our football and the team mean to a lot of people, and we want to deliver something truly special that inspires and leads to trophies."
