Ex-San Diego Wave manager Casey Stoney has been officially appointed Canada's head coach.
Following the Canadian women's national team's controversial use of a drone to observe the New Zealand training session during the Olympics, both manager Bev Priestman and assistant coach Jasmine Mander were placed on leave pending an investigation.
Both were subsequently dismissed after the investigation confirmed they had ordered the drone flight. This left the team without a permanent manager.
Casey Stoney, with her exceptional career as a player for Chelsea and Arsenal and as a manager for Manchester United and San Diego Wave, brings a wealth of experience to the Canadian side.
While Casey Stoney was linked with a potential move to manage Women's Super League club, Arsenal, following the departure of Jonas Eidevall and the interim appointment of Renée Slegers, she has ultimately chosen to lead the Canadian national team.
Canada has a proven history of excellence in women's football, having won the CONCACAF W Championship twice (1998, and 2010) and securing Olympic gold in 2020.
Stoney will assume the role from interim manager Andy Spence, beginning with their upcoming February international break.
