Charlton Athletic Women is a Championship club based in southeast London, playing at The Valley.
They have been competing in the Women's Championship for six seasons since their promotion in the 2018/19 season. They previously won two Women's League Cups and an FA Cup between 2003 and 2006 before being disbanded in 2007, following the men's team's relegation. The women's team was reformed in 2017.
Performance This Season
Women's Championship
Charlton currently sits fourth in the Championship table, five points behind league leaders Birmingham City. With 9 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses. They also have a game in hand, with their match against Blackburn Rovers postponed due to a frozen pitch at The Valley.
FA Cup:
Charlton reached the fourth round of the FA Cup, where they were eliminated by English champions Chelsea. Despite a strong first-half performance, they conceded their first goal in the 40th minute, a header from Mayra Ramirez. They then conceded three more: a Guro Reiten penalty, an Aggie Beever-Jones goal, and a Niamh Charles finish.
Subway Women’s League Cup:
Charlton was placed in Group C of the League Cup, alongside Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Crystal Palace (all WSL clubs), making progression to the knockout stages challenging. They finished at the bottom of their group and were eliminated in the group stage.
Standout Players
Ellie Brazil:
Joining at the beginning of the season, Brazil has made a significant impact, scoring six goals so far. Previously playing for Tottenham Hotspur, she gained valuable game time at Brighton, contributing to her development. She is Charlton's top scorer this season, leading the attack for the Addicks.
Carla Humphrey:
With nine seasons of WSL experience, Humphrey brings a wealth of knowledge to Charlton. The dynamic and creative midfielder is a constant threat to the opposition, with her attacking passes into the box creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities.
Beth Roe:
Charlton's longest-serving player, Roe is a key member of the defense. Last season, she made crucial interceptions, contributing to their near-promotion. She is also a fan favorite, having won the 2022/23 Player of the Year award.
Transfer Window
During the recent transfer window, the Addicks did not make any permanent transfers but signed two players on loan:
Greta Humphries:
Currently on loan from Chelsea, Humphries is a young center-back seeking more senior experience. She signed her first professional contract with the Blues in the summer of 2024 and spent the first half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Bristol City.
Atlanta Primus:
Currently on loan from Southampton, Primus is a central midfielder seeking more playing time. Before joining Southampton, Primus spent three years at London City Lionesses, scoring 15 goals in 58 appearances.
Having represented England at the youth level, Primus switched to the Jamaican women's national team in 2021. She debuted for the Reggae Girlz in a 0-0 friendly against Costa Rica and was part of the team that earned their first-ever point in the Women's World Cup against France.
