Welcome to our WSL team of the week for Gameweek 9 of the Barclays WSL season.
GOALKEEPER
In goal we have put Hannah Hampton. After Chelsea's unstable start to the game against Brighton, Hampton put herself on the line to make sure Chelsea remain unbeaten. Hampton made some terrific saves throughout the game including denying Seike a goal in the first half.
DEFENDERS
For our three defenders, we have put Steph Catley from Arsenal, Kerstin Casparij from Manchester City and Poppy Pattinson from Brighton. In the second half of Arsenal vs Aston Villa, the visitors upped their energy, obviously eager to get their opening goal. Steph Catley was there with a terrific run which would deny Ebony salmon from successfully taking a shot.
Kerstin Casparij shone again for Manchester city. Casparij produced a brilliant cross within the first couple of minutes which resulted in the opening goal scored by Shaw. Her defensive ability wasn't really needed during this game but she proved herself on the pitch in other ways. Young left-back Poppy Pattinson is proving herself this season at Brighton. Her defensive skills were truly shown against Chelsea. She kept tight to Chelsea's wingers to prevent them from turning. Pattinson also held the line well and was confident when receiving the ball.
MIDFIELDERS
We decided on 4 midfielders. Our picks were Anouk Denton from West Ham, Sjoeke Nusken from Chelsea, Dominique Janssen from Manchester United and Vicky Losada from Brighton. Janssen scored her debut goal for Manchester United against Liverpool. She received a well deserved player of the match award after scoring one goal and assisting two. She has made her mark at the club after only signing in the summer transfer window.
Anouk Denton is a player who is starting to make her breakthrough in the WSL. In the 82nd minute against Crystal palace she scored a beautiful goal. Denton was the player of the match. Sjoeke Nusken scored a brace against Brighton as Chelsea secured their 4-2 win over Brighton. Vicky Losasda showed her experience throughout the game with her skills.
FORWARDS
Finally, for our forwards we have Alessia Russo, Khadija Shaw and Nikita Parris. Russo scored a brace, the opening and the final goal, in Arsenal's 4-0 win over Aston Villa. She has shown that she has found her form again. Shaw also scored a Brace for Manchester City against Leicester City.
Parris has been a star for Brighton ever since she signed for them from Manchester United in the summer transfer window. She came close to hitting the back of the net twice in the first half. She forced Hannah Hampton to pull out a save as well as coming close again following a misplaced pass. Even though Parris was unable to score, she did manage to assist Cankovic.
