Welcome back to Constancy Football’s Team of the Week for Gameweek 10 of the WSL.
After a chaotic WSL weekend where we witnessed Chelsea drop points for the first time this season, Arsenal winning yet again under Renee Slegers and a shock result at Walton Hall Park, we picked out our eleven standout performers from gameweek 10
Goalkeeper
Manchester United has conceded the least goals in the league this season, which speaks volumes about the quality of the defence that Marc Skinner sets up.
The American goalkeeper, Tullis-Joyce has proved her ability between the bars since Mary Earps departed for Paris in the summer, with one save at the VBS Community Stadium on Sunday her job was done. United headed back up the M6 with all three points and a fourth spot heading into the winter break.
Defenders
For the second week in a row, Arsenal’s ever consistent Australian Steph Catley has made her way into our team of the week.
The Aussie yet again looked composed on the left side at centre-back, didn’t commit a foul in the game and had an 88% pass accuracy in a brilliant performance.
Her centre-half partner Leah Williamson also earns a place in our Team of the Week; the two-centre backs proving to be an impenetrable force for Liverpool to break through with the Merseyside team getting only two shots on target in the whole game.
The game at St Helens also saw yet another brilliant Taylor Hinds performance despite being on the losing side. The Liverpool captain lined up at wing-back and proved a constant threat bombing up and down that left-hand side.
Sophie Howard from Leicester City is our fourth and final defender, with an excellent defensive display across the whole ninety minutes as Leicester City upset Chelsea to become the first team to take points off The Blues this season.
Midfielders
Sara Holmgaard gets the first spot in our midfield after a starring performance at Walton Hall Park where Everton beat Manchester City 2-1, a result not many people saw coming.
Her assist was fantastic and to be honest, we could’ve picked literally any of the Everton players after their performance, but there wasn't a blade of grass on the Walton Hall Park pitch that Holmgaard didn’t cover,
Crystal Palace’s Lexi Potter, on loan from Chelsea, is the next player in our team; the loanee easily being Palace’s best player on the afternoon, with a team high in accurate pass percentage and touches in her performance.
After her performance against West Ham at the weekend, scoring one and assisting another we have chosen the French midfielder Kenza Dali to join our team. She was all over the pitch and was a key role in Villa’s win.
Forwards
Leicester CIty star Missy Goodwin could easily have had the moment of the weekend, coming on as a first half substitute before sweeping Leicester in front against the reigning Champions to the delight of all inside the King Power.
Aston Villa is our next stop, with Adriana Leon starting and flowing with confidence out on the Villa right, with two brilliant goals as she helped put West Ham to the sword. She actually had three shots on target herself too, scoring twice as mentioned and was a constant thorn in the side of West Ham.
Alessia Russo is our final player, with the Lioness scoring for the fifth Arsenal game in a row in the League, meaning she is joint second with Guro Reiten from Chelsea.
It was a vintage Russo performance, which allowed everyone to see her supreme qualities.
