Megan Finnigan is a Blackpool born midfielder who captains Everton in the Women’s Super League.
Finnigan’s youth career started at the early age of 9 with Everton’s academy. She stayed with the club to develop her skills and captained in the 2014 Women’s Youth Cup Final. She then went on to make her first team debut in 2015 where she made a total of six appearances that season.
The midfielder has been with Everton ever since, moving from the Women’s Super League 2 (now Women's Championship) to the Women’s Super League for the 2017-2018 season where she made 16 appearances. It wasn’t until the 2020-2021 season where she made 22 appearances, that Finnigan scored her first goal for the senior team.
Since this she has continued to be on the score sheet for the following seasons.
The captain continues to impress and inspire the younger Toffees with her skills and impressive career. She has now reached 200 appearances for the Club. She is a memorable figure for Everton and is an all rounder as a player who uses her defensive skills as well as her upfront skills.
As well as Club, she also played in England’s youth teams. She made appearances from U17 through to U20s. A memorable time during this is when she captained the U19 team during the 2017 European Championships and was a member of the U20 squad when they claimed bronze at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. However, she is yet to appear for the senior Lioness team.
Megan Finnigan has had a massive influence on Everton both on and off the pitch for a number of years. She leads by example for the new Toffees recently making debuts in the senior team. Her passion for the game is clearly shown in every appearance she makes and her intelligence combined with skill makes her the player she is. Always a Royal Blue.
