Ella Morris is a young rising star in women’s football. She is a promising English footballer who plays as a defender for Tottenham Hotspur Women and represents England at the Under-23 level.


Club Career


Ella Morris began her football journey with Southampton’s academy at the age of 14. Progressing through the ranks she made her first-team debut in the 18/19 season at the age of 17, eventually making 117 appearances and scoring 14 goals for the club.


Her contributions were instrumental in Southampton’s promotion to the Women’s Championship in May 2022. She continued to be a key part of the team throughout the following Championship seasons, becoming a player who consistently contributed 5-star performances to the club.


During her time at Southampton, she was named the 19/20 Women's Player of the Season and Player's Player of the Season after her first full campaign in the senior team. I


n July 2024, Morris signed a three-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur, seeking to advance her career and allowing her to showcase her talent on a bigger stage in the WSL.


International Career


On the international stage, Morris has consistently been in England’s youth teams and is currently part of the Under-23 squad. In February 2025, she was called up for the Under-23 Euro League fixtures against Germany and France. Morris has described how she draws inspiration from teammates like Jess Naz, who have successfully transitioned from youth setups to the senior national team.


Playing Style and Development


Morris is recognised for her defensive solidity and versatility, attributes that have constantly improved through regular first-team football since her teenage years. Morris’s playing style is characterized by not only her pace but also her offensive mindset.


She excels at her overlapping runs and stunning crosses which also allow her to initiate attacks from the back. Morris describes herself as a “quick player, really front-footed” which emphasises her desire to get up and down the pitch, helping her team wherever she can.


Her move to Tottenham has provided her with the opportunity to not only learn from experienced players who help contribute to her growth both on and off the pitch but also the opportunity to experience a higher level of football. She has expressed satisfaction with her development at Spurs, stating that her expectations have been met since joining the club. 


Recent Performances


In recent Women’s Super League matches, Morris has been actively involved in Tottenham’s campaign. For instance, she played in the 2-1 loss to Manchester City on March 2, 2025.  Her participation in such high-profile games indicates the trust placed in her abilities by the coaching staff. More recently on the 30th of March, she was even awarded Player of the Match for Tottenham’s game against Leicester City for her superb performance
