The Wales Women’s Rugby Team will kick-off the Guinness Women’s Six Nations away from home on the 22nd March at 4:45pm against Scotland. The team was previously governed under a different body but has been under the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) umbrella since 1994.

History

The Wales Women's Rugby Team played their first official match on 5th April 1987 against England Women at Pontypool Park. This came three years after the formation of the Welsh Women's Rugby Union (WWRU) in 1984. Previously, Welsh players would represent Great Britain and they played as a team up until 1990.

In 2022 Wales became one of the first nations to introduce full-time contracts for their women's team.

The highest that Wales have placed in the Women's Six Nations was second place in 2009. Last year, in 2024, they placed fourth and in 2022 and 2023 they placed third in the competition.

Head Coach

Sean Lynn was newly appointed Head Coach in January of 2025 on a three-year contract with the WRU. Lynn was responsible for back-to-back Premiership Women's Rugby (PWR) titles for Gloucester-Hartpury in 2023 and 2024.

The Women's Six Nations will be his first major campaign full-time as Head Coach of Wales, which will be a good test before the Women's Rugby World Cup in the summer.

Captain

Hannah Jones is currently the captain of the Wales Women's Rugby Team after being appointed during the Six Nations in 2023. During the tournament Jones will be joined by vice-captains Keira Bevan and Alex Callender as part of a new leadership team on-field, appointed by Head Coach Sean Lynn.

Fixtures

After their inaugural match at Hive Stadium against Scotland on the 22nd March, Wales will return home to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff to take on last year's winners England at 4:45pm.

They will then face France away from home on the 12th April with kick-off at 12:45pm. Wales vs Ireland will take place on the 20th April at Rodney Parade in Newport with a 3pm kick-off.

Finally, on Super Saturday the 26th April, Wales will travel to the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi in Parma with the kick-off time being 3pm.

In the UK, all fixtures will be available to be streamed on BBC and BBC i Player.
