Tottenham Hotspur V West Ham United Pre-Match Press Conference

Manager Martin Ho took on a Press Conference ahead of the first match of the 25/26 season, and previously managed SK Brann in the Norwegian Women’s League.

Ho said that he believes it is the right time to come back to the English  league as he has “Gained Valuable experience being away.” As he learnt about managing staff and working with above leadership, as the last time that Ho was in English football, it was as an assistant manager in Manchester United.

In terms of the squad and Tottenham’s pre-season matches, he managed two wins over Arsenal and Southampton, as, “The last five, six weeks has been very important for me to have my eyes on the squad” to “make sure that we can be the most efficient,” However, Ho also stated that it was important for the players to be “intense off the ball” and to be expressive, individual and to make sure that the players can express themselves with their own personality.

The manager then also mentioned some long-term injuries going into the season, such as Ella Morris, who has been out with an ACL injury, and is expected to be out for the majority of the 25/26 season. Luana Buhler is also “Still the same.” As she was forced to withdraw from the  Euros tournament this summer from injury.

Another injury comes from Molly Bartrip who has “Got a little bit of a knock and hasn’t been in the last 2 games.” As she is being assessed as they are the only ones who are really missing as all the other players have been training consistently, keeping high hopes for the beginning of the new season.

Despite not having a very successful season last year, Ho stated that “We should be pushing ourselves,” As they “Don’t want to put a ceiling on where you can finish [in the league] because then it looks like it’s an overachievement.” As they want to be “Competitive in every game we go into and build a clear structure and strategy moving forward.”

Regarding the transfer window, the manager said that they have faced a challenge from the change in playing style, identity and coach and have embraced everything, as there is “A lot of talent in this group and a lot of potential, individually and collectively.” However, one player that has stood out is Toko Koga who is “Very young and exciting and is going to be a superb player.” As she has national caps and has settled in well as she appears to be comfortable in trainings and matches as she has settled in and “Understands what Tottenham Hotspur as a club is about.”

Cathinka Tandberg is another new signing expected to succeed as she will “Add depth to the squad.” as she will be “A huge threat in and around the box.”, Especially as she is “Physically strong and powerful.” So will be a force to be reckoned with. When asked about why Spurs signed Cathinka when they have Bethany England and Martha Thomas in the same position, Ho said that he wants to “have different profiles in the frontline that enable us to play slightly differently in certain moments.” To be less predictable as Cathinka with play a key role.

A key moment of the Pre-season was the North London Derby that they played against rivals Arsenal, where they “Had to really overcome some adverse moments in that game.”, which ended in a Tottenham win, which helped the players to instil confidence and belief within the group ahead of the season, especially as the manager has “Tried to give everyone an opportunity.” As he has seen a lot of quality in their current squad.

With this, Ho has seen a “Shift in confidence and belief.” In Matilda Vinberg, as Araya Dennis has also been very patient as she has been training very well in preseason as she just needs “A little bit of guidance and a little bit more coaching.” As she is getting this more consistently and is becoming a better player.

Ahead of the match against West Ham, a focus was placed on West Ham’s strong attack, mainly from  Martinez, Asseyi and Ueki up front, but Spurs have “really good players on our team” and will “focus on what we can control and on our performance.”. As Spurs will be at the top of their game to prevent a loss.

Finally, we asked Martin Ho:

“We’ve been seeing a rise in the importance of young players and academy players in general, especially during injury crises, or in moments of struggle, so have you been integrating more young players or academy players into the squad?”

He said “Yeah, no more importantly I think my background as a lot of people will know is from youth development and probably having a bigger passion for development players and especially youth players. And we’ve had throughout preseason now maybe six or seven, I think in terms of training with us from the under 19’s group consistently, some of them travelled away with us to Sevilla, some of them have participation in two or three games, so no,  more importantly for me it’s I don’t look at it in terms of young. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough. More importantly, it’s my job to make sure that they’re given the confidence and the tools to be able to go and perform in the Super League, but also understand that they have a lot of development stages to go, and we’ll see that through the season now, in terms of not just in injury moments, because I feel then then you put someone in when it’s just an injury crises, it’s maybe a one off and what I want to make sure is this club has a, a rich history for developing their own players.”

Manchester United Women: Summer 2025 Transfer Window Round-Up and Analysis

United’s headline signing came in mid-August with the addition of Fridolina Rolfö from Barcelona. The Swedish international brings with her Champions League medals, over 100 caps for her country, and the sort of versatility that makes her invaluable in modern football. At Barça, she was equally effective as a marauding full-back and as an advanced winger; scoring goals, creating chances, and providing defensive stability when required. Her arrival gives Skinner an elite ball-carrier down the left, a consistent source of crosses, and a set-piece threat.

For United, the benefits are clear. In a back four, Rolfö can transform build-up by pushing high and wide, allowing the winger ahead of her to tuck inside. In a back three, she slots naturally into the wing-back role, balancing defensive cover with attacking thrust. If there is a concern, it is workload management: after years of club and international intensity, United will need to be smart with her minutes.

Deadline day saw United strike one of the most eye-catching deals of the window. A straight swap that sent Grace Clinton to Manchester City and brought Jess Park over to the Reds. At just 23, Park is already known for her ability to receive in tight pockets, turn quickly, and release forwards with incisive passing. Her dribbling in central areas and knack for finding space between the lines could add something different to United’s attack.

Skinner now has a genuine playmaker to operate as a No.10 in his preferred 4-2-3-1, or as an inverted right winger who can drive inside and combine with overlapping full backs. The deal was a shock for fans, but Park’s creativity and energy look tailor-made for a side that has sometimes struggled to unlock deep defences.

The first arrival of the summer, Julia Zigiotti Olme, arrived from Bayern Munich at the end of July. The 27-year-old Swedish international will also be crucial in building a balanced side as a hard-working, defensively sound midfielder. She excels at screening the back line and recycling possession. She allows her teammates to push forward with confidence.

United’s midfield has sometimes been left exposed, especially against Europe’s best. With the UWCL on the horizon for the club, Zigiotti’s presence should provide the stability needed to unleash the full attacking potential of Park and Rolfö.

The window wasn’t without exits. Aoife Mannion joined Newcastle United after her contract expired, while youngster Jess Simpson left on loan to Southampton. Most significantly, Grace Clinton moved to City in the Park swap deal, depriving United of one of their brightest academy graduates.

This was not a scattergun window: it was targeted, deliberate, and focused on quality over quantity. United may not have matched rivals in volume of signings, but in Rolfö they have a world-class operator, in Park a creative spark, and in Zigiotti Olme, the balance to knit it all together.

Squad depth remains a concern, but the squad looks stronger and more tactically versatile than it did last season. The club are undoubtably hungry for more silverware, having gone without since their success in the 2024 FA Cup final. If the new signings settle quickly, United should have the tools to push on both domestically and in Europe.

Transfer window overview: Chelsea FC

With the transfer window coming to a close last night, domestic treble winners Chelsea seemed to have a reasonably quiet summer in terms of club incomings.

After the departure of Emma Hayes at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, the club made several huge signings with the likes of Lucy Bronze joining the blues for the first time.

But this year, whilst still having the statement signings, the active January transfer window meant Chelsea could take a more relaxed approach to strengthening their squad.

The summer started off with the signing of Swiss international Livia Peng from Werder Bremen on a four year deal. The goalkeeper certainly made a good impression among fans during the UEFA Women’s Euro’s in the summer, helping her country make it to the quarterfinals for the first time before bowing out of the competition after a hard loss against Spain.

Mara Alber was the clubs next signing with four year contract agreed. The 19-year-old joined from TSG Hoffenheim after making her debut at just 16. The attacker had an injury riddled season last year however this doesn’t take away from her previous success both domestically and internationally having lifted the U-17 Euros in 2022 as joint top goal scorer and being named in the top three players of the U-17 World Cup just a year later.

The first statement signing of the summer came in the name of Ellie Carpenter, an Australian international with two Champions leagues (amongst other accolades) to her name. Having played under Sonia Bompastor before, she is certain to become a key part of the Chelsea squad, especially in Lucy Bronze’s absence.

One final signing was Jamaican international Becky Spencer. Having spent the latter half of the 24/25 season at Chelsea on emergency loan, it came as no surprise when Spencer made the move permanent. Whilst being expected to be third choice goalkeeper whilst at the blues, her two previous stints (one last year, one from 2016-2018) makes her a trusted shot stopper among fans.

To conclude the summer window, Alyssa Thompson signed for Chelsea from Angel City in the NWSL for a near £1 million fee as a deadline day deal. The attacker, who signed a 5 year contract has been capped 22 times for the USWNT and even made her debut at Wembley stadium in 2022 so a potential FA Cup final should come as no threat to her next summer.

West Ham signings: Everything you need to know

West Ham Women are making a few key adjustments ahead of the 25/26 season. The team has made a limited number of new signings, focusing on bringing in targeted talent to strengthen the squad. We take a closer look at the few new players who have joined the club this summer, and what they’re expected to bring to the team.

Ffion Morgan

Boasting valuable WSL experience, Ffion Morgan is an ideal signing to bolster the Hammers’ midfield. She arrived at the club after departing Bristol at the end of last season, concluding a four-year spell with the club.

This summer marked a historic moment as she was selected for Wales’ first-ever major competition. She featured in all three matches, and despite the outcome, the team’s presence inspired a generation and put Welsh football firmly in the spotlight.

Sarah Brasero

She’s a promising young midfielder who has previously played for Ipswich, Lewes, and a Portuguese side, Estoril. Brásero signed for the Hammers on a three-year deal, saying she is “ready to take the next step” and “play in the best league in the world” with the Women’s Super League side.

She’s played for the Lionesses since the under-15s, now playing for Emma Coates’ under-23s team. She made her debut for the team in December 2024, in the side’s 2-1 defeat against Sweden and has represented them twice since then.

Yu Endo

Yu Endo spent 15 years as a dedicated player for Urawa Reds, having risen through their youth ranks before making her professional debut in 2016. During her long tenure, she was a consistent presence for the club, making 171 appearances and winning numerous trophies, including back-to-back WE League titles in 2023 and 2024. She’s taking her first steps outside Japan to sign for West Ham.

A seasoned international, Endo has been a member of the Japanese women’s national team, earning multiple caps for her country. She has been a consistent presence in recent squads and has represented Japan on the world stage. Her performances on the international level showcase her value as a player with both technical skill and experience.

Leila Wandeler

The young forward joins the Hammers from French Giants Lyon, having played for their academy, B team, and main squad. Leila Wandeler is a talented Swiss defender who spent her youth playing for BSC YB Frauen in Switzerland before playing for LSK Kvinner FK in Norway and KIF Örebro in Sweden. This past year, she made her move to the Women’s Super League to join West Ham United, having built a strong career across multiple European leagues.

She has also played for the Swiss women’s national team. She’s represented them since the under-17s level but received her first call-up in June 2024. Since then, she has made four appearances and featured in a home European Championship, making it to the quarter-finals.

Anna Csiki

Anna joins the Hammers from London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, where she received little game time due to suffering an ACL injury in 2022. She previously played for Swedish side BK Hacken for four years, making 66 appearances as well as scoring 8 goals. She made her debut for her first professional team (Ferencvárosi TC) at just 15 years old. There she won the Női NB I (League title) twice, along with the Hungary cup 3 times.

She has also been capped for the Hungary women’s national team, making her debut in 2017. She has featured in Friendlies along with the qualifying cycle for the 2022 Euros, making 44 appearances and scoring 8 goals.

Chelsea v Manchester City Pre-Match Press Conference

Alyssa Thompson was the main focus for the start of the conference with questions around her potential signing. Sonia Bompastor said that shes focusing on her players. She also said “There’s always speculations around the transfer window but from the beginning of the week I’ve said I want to focus on the game tomorrow and I want to focus on my players because that’s the most important thing to do for me and the correct thing”

Sam Kerr is confirmed to be on the teamsheet for tommrows match. Sonia said “She’s in a good place, training well she’s physically in a good position. She’s also mentally in a good position,” she also mentioned that we would need to give her more time to be back to 100% saying “I think to be fair to her, she’s been away from the pitch for a long time, so I think we still need to be patient with her.”

The manager also spoke about some of the injuries going into the season. Firstly, commenting on the recent announcement of Mayra Ramierz being out with a hamstring injury until 2026, where she said, “She had successful surgery, which is something really positive, but then again it’s sad for Mayra and for us because she was an important player in the squad and in the team.”

She also mentioned Lucy Bronze saying its difficult to put a timeframe on her return “ she’s doing well she’s in a good place mentally and physically so hopefully she will come back soon I think she’s still some weeks away from her return on the pitch”

Finally It was Lauren James where she said it was also difficult to put a timeframe on it, additionally saying “Her rehab is going on the right direction. I’m not expecting to see her for the next few weeks because again she’s an important player and we need her on the pitch.”

Sonia also commented on tomorrow’s opponents, saying “They have a really good squad and really good players, and it’s never been an easy game to play against them. It’s always been difficult.”

She also noted a key difference from last season, highlighting the City’s players back from injury. “If you analyze them from last season, they had some big injuries in the squad, so they will be back to having almost a full squad. It will be different for sure.”

We asked Sonia: “We’re seeing more clubs invest heavily in their women’s teams. Does that make the WSL more unpredictable this season than ever before, and what do you think we’ll see?

She said “Yeah, for sure making a WSL more unpredictable  the more clubs are investing making it more strong and more competitive. I think again this league is the most competitive league in the world from my vision. It’s not because last season we were able to achieve a treble and to win all the domestic trophies. It was difficult last season and it’ll be even more difficult this season we expect that so we just need to make sure we keep the right mentality and keep working hard and keep this winning mentality into this new season and we need to be confident from what we achieved in the past, but also making sure we don’t take that for granted because we know every team will be difficult to beat this season no one is going to give us the trophy.”

Finally, Vera Buurman is one of Chelsea’s possible debuts to be made tomorrow. Sonia said “She’s left footed and she has a really good left foot, she’s really comfortable on the ball and in position.”. She also spoke her game intelligence saying “She’s young and out of position she’s really smart and reads the game really well.”. Finally she added “She has the right mentality and she’s coming on in the right direction.”
